Challenge

The district needed to urgently stop an active, volumetric DDoS attack and prevent it from recurring.

  • Internal IT staff didn’t have the resources to stop the attack themselves.
  • The district did not have any services or technology in place to mitigate DDoS attacks.
  • The district couldn’t conduct time-sensitive student testing online because the DDoS attack was disrupting their access.

Solution

The district’s IT staff turned to Spectrum Business, their Dedicated Fiber Internet provider, who rapidly stopped the attack and deployed a solution to prevent future ones.

  • The district’s account manager immediately escalated the issue and assembled the right people to resolve the situation.
  • Internet traffic was re-routed from the IP address under attack to the Spectrum Business DDoS scrubbing centers and attack traffic was removed, enabling the district to resume normal operations within just a few hours.
  • Cloud-based DDoS Protection service from Spectrum Business was implemented to safeguard the network from future DDoS attacks and ensure online activities could continue.

Outcome

The school district’s network is now protected against DDoS attacks.

  • Internal IT staff can rely on a network operations center equipped with experts and resources to ensure mitigation and support during an attack.
  • Threats are mitigated and attacks are automatically identified with the subscription-based DDoS Protection service.
  • The district is now safeguarded against disruptions to student testing and other activities that can be affected by DDoS attacks.
