Hotel guests today expect an extensive channel lineup and an uninterrupted viewing experience of their favorite programs. Corey Stuttgen, a hospitality sales manager at Spectrum Business, has witnessed this firsthand.

Before joining Spectrum Business, Corey was at a hotel watching his hometown baseball team, the Milwaukee Brewers, compete in the playoffs. During the seventh inning, the hotel’s satellite connection failed, causing Corey to miss the rest of the game. This experience made a strong impression on Corey: when he works with hospitality organizations, he uses it as a reminder to think beyond the hotel’s needs and consider what the guests expect.

Because of his extensive hospitality industry experience, Corey knows that guest technology expectations extend beyond reliable video services to WiFi and more.

We sat down with Corey to discuss why he’s so passionate about his work, hospitality technology trends and how Spectrum Business is helping hospitality organizations deliver the reliable experiences today’s guests expect.

What drives you every day, and where does your passion come from?

My hometown is in my sales region, so I want visitors to love it here. I know experiences with hotels can impact a guest’s impression of a city.

If business travelers lose WiFi during a video conference at a hotel, they may not return there. If a family has a disappointing experience with their hotel TV, they might stay elsewhere on their next vacation.

I’m passionate about helping hotels deliver positive experiences and memories that will influence people to return not just to the hotel, but also to the city.

What technology changes have you seen during your time in hospitality, and how has that changed guest expectations?

Everything has changed. When I started out, many hotels provided WiFi only in their lobbies. Now, guests expect WiFi throughout the entire property so they can use their own devices whether they’re in their rooms or out at the pool. Hotels are also offering the ability for guests to cast content from their personal devices to hotel TVs.

These amenities are quickly becoming part of what guests expect. They require reliable network connectivity and new video service options, which is exactly what Spectrum Business provides.

What's a key challenge you see the hospitality industry grappling with today, and how does Spectrum Business help solve it?

Short-term rental websites have brought more competition to traditional hospitality companies. To compete, hospitality brands are pivoting to offer guests more convenience-driven experiences. We help them with this by providing services in partnership with Moviebeam that allow guests to easily do many things directly from their in-room TVs such as schedule tee times and spa services, order dry cleaning, check flight times and more.

Corey focuses on helping hotels exceed guest expectations. Check out more ways hospitality organizations can use reliable connectivity solutions to deliver new technology that helps elevate the guest experience.
