A historic location is only one ingredient in my recipe for success
My retro-cool butcher shop and seafood market gets the modern network it needs

When I saw the inside of the former railroad depot in Madeira, Ohio, I knew it was the perfect place to open Redden Fine Meats & Seafood. The historic building provided exactly the nostalgic atmosphere I wanted for the backdrop of my new business.
I am a chef by trade, and this was not my first experience opening a new business. The recipe for success requires three ingredients I know well: a cozy atmosphere, great food and friendly service. It also requires a reliable technology partner, one who’s all in on my goals. Why? So many aspects of running a business rely on connectivity. Therefore, while my location is historic, my IT network had to be anything but — it needed to be modern.
Here are three reasons why I needed a modern network, and why I chose Spectrum Business to provide it.
Why a modern network
I needed a modern network to deliver on my top priorities, which were:
- To provide fast, reliable wireless connectivity so patrons can work or surf the internet while they enjoy their shopping experience or indulge with a charcuterie board on my spacious patio.
- To support a camera system that will ensure security and safety for staff, customers and the business.
- To stay compliant with PCI (payment card industry) security standards and have the ability to validate credit and debit card transactions in real time — even if there’s a network outage.
Why Spectrum Business
I chose Spectrum Business because they clearly demonstrated how they could help me achieve my priorities and because they could manage everything for me, which is really important because I don’t have an IT team.
I went with Managed Network Edge, which is delivered over the Cisco Meraki platform, to provide me with all the network services I need. Everything from the solution design to installation, maintenance and support is handled by Spectrum Business so I can focus on serving my customers instead of managing my technology.
- I’m able to provide my customers with fast and reliable WiFi that’s proactively monitored by Spectrum Business.
- A smart security camera system is integrated with the solution so I can easily monitor my front and back entrances.
- If a network outage occurs, it doesn’t jeopardize my PCI compliance or prevent me from processing card transactions because the network will automatically fail over to an LTE connection.
What’s next
When I open in June it will be full steam ahead in the old railroad depot. Patrons will order. Payments will process reliably. They will sit, connect, eat … and hopefully repeat. As my business grows, my connectivity needs will change, but I will have a modern network — and a reliable partner — to help me reach my goals.
