An industry event highlights the communications infrastructure and tomorrow's smart cities are here today

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) brought industry leaders to New Orleans in early October for its annual Cable-Tec Expo. These experts and industry partners discussed a wide range of important topics – from 10G to Network Function Virtualization to the future of IoT.

Spectrum focused on conversations about smart cities. We aim to help communities accomplish their mission-critical goals—at home, at school, at work, on the go and in the community. We deliver connectivity solutions that are the foundation of today's communications infrastructure and tomorrow's smart cities.

Journey through a smart city

At SCTE, we were able to showcase these solutions for smart cities. Many attendees joined us in our booth to learn about Spectrum Smart Cities. In fact, our smart city model made out of more than 50,000 building blocks became the heart of the expo.

Here, visitors were greeted by Spectrum Smart City tour guides who used the model to help our guests explore some of the many solutions that make communities safer, greener, and more efficient. The journey through our smart city experience then led them to three unique, interactive demonstrations on smart lighting, smart parking, and smart farming that dove deeper into several smart city solutions we are working on in communities across the country in collaboration with an ecosystem of partners. 

The power of the network already exists

Beyond the booth, we also joined a community of thought leaders on stage, especially on the event’s closing day, which focused on smart cities. Tom Adams, Executive Vice President, Field Operations and SCTE chairman-elect and co-chair of the event presented alongside Bill Warga of Liberty Global in the keynote panel on smart city solutions. Cities can deploy those solutions now, Tom told the crowd, since “the power of the network already exists.”

Satya Parimi, Group Vice President, Enterprise Data and Smart Cities, Spectrum Business for enterprise, also joined a panel on smart cities that emphasized how we are the ideal partner for communities exploring these solutions. Alongside him was Spectrum client Alison Barlow, executive director, St. Pete (Florida) Innovation District. Barlow spoke about how her great partnership with Spectrum has enabled the delivery of an innovative smart lighting solution for her city.
