What is FIPS 140-02?


Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-02 is a government publication by NIST entitled Security Requirements for Cryptographic Modules which specifies security standards and accredited cryptographic modules to securely send sensitive data. Used by the U.S. government and other regulated industries (finance, healthcare, etc.) to store, transfer, and share sensitive but unclassified (SBU) information.
